Canon Video
Canon (UK) Ltd, leaders in imaging and photographic technology, launches the MVX2i, an exciting new addition to Canon's digital video line-up. Packed full of features, the MVX2i builds on Canon's award winning combination of advanced digital technologies and optical expertise to offer users outstanding quality output at an affordable price.
Incorporating a new contemporary design, the Canon MVX2i incorporates a host of features including: Motion Jpeg recording, Canon's newly developed camera signal processing LSI (Large Scale Integrated circuit), a _" 1.33 Mega Pixel CCD for capturing still images, direct print capabilities and a new network function. Additional features also include an ultra compact 10x optical image stabiliser lens, 2.5" 200,000 pixel LCD and improved PC compatibility.
Size, Style, and Design
The new contemporary design of the MVX2i will impress users with its sophisticated metallic body, stylish feel and comfortable operation. This new design allows the MVX2i to be smaller than its predecessor the MVX1i, and a new lay out and design of the control buttons offers the user improved operability. Additionally the Advanced Rotating Grip offers users a wider range of grip angles so it's easier to hold and carry.
Technologies
Motion JPEG
The MVX2i also features a Motion JPEG recording function, which means that short movies can be recorded onto a memory card making it easy to download to a personal computer or send via email.
Newly Developed Signal Processing LSI (Large Scale Integrated circuit)
The MVX2i utilises Canon's digital camera technology to offer improved still image reproduction. Colour signal processing has been enhanced on the premise that images recorded on tape will be viewed on a Canon TV monitor and that images recorded on the memory card will be printed out or viewed on a PC. By making separate signal processing possible for both movies and still images the parameters for image quality adjustments have been substantially extended.
Digital Camera Function
The MVX2i combines the 1.33 mega pixel interlaced CCD with the 10x Optical images stabililser lens to achieve high-resolution pictures without blurring even at telescopic focal distances. A high refractive index two-sided aspherical lens coupled with Canon's expertise in optical anti-vibration technology has made it possible to reduce the lens size of the MVX2i by approximately 50%.
Improved memory card access speed, reduces the read and write time enabling quick image capture, so those special moments are never missed.
A continuous shooting function is provided to enable the shooting of up to 30 images at 3 fps in VGA size or up to 10 images at 2 fps in SXGA size. This function is linked with the flash so continuous shooting is possible even in low light locations. The MVX2i also has a built in flash with light control system by pre-emission and auto pop-up function. Flash control is also possible when AE is locked; this is the same system as used in Canon EOS cameras. The MVX2i has 4 flash modes: Auto, Compulsory on/compulsory off and Red eye reduction.
Direct Print Capabilities
The MVX2i is the first Canon digital camcorder to be compatible with Canon's direct printer range: CP-10, CP-100 and the Bubble Jet S820D photo printer. This allows users to print images directly from the camcorder via the direct interface cable without the need for a PC.
By connecting to a printer with Exif Print capability, the camera data obtained at the time of recording can be optimised to obtain better print output results.
Network functions
The MVX2i has better network abilities using IEEE 1394 for DV Messenger and file transfer function. DV Messenger works based on Microsoft Windows Messenger and makes it possible for the camcorder to communicate with another Canon camcorder through Camera control, VTR control and IEEE 1394 file transfer between Windows XP PC's. DV Messenger allows for tape playback streaming as well as camera live streaming.
Additional network functions include
Support for motion JPEG recording on a memory card
Camera direct function and Exif 2.2 support
Additional Functions
Super Night LED - a white LED mounted on the front of the camera is a supplemental light source when recording in Super Night mode.
Digital Animation Mix - in addition to combining still images, the MVX2i can combine images with animations recorded on a card and recorded to tape.
Digital effect and digital fade - a variety of digital effects and fading functions are included for on-camera video editing. These effects previously had to be done on a PC. Effects include colours, ball, mirror, cube and wave while digital fade includes flip, tide, puzzle and beam effects.
Analogue-digital converter - analogue signals from external equipment can be converted in real time to digital signals and output through the DV jack.
PC connectivity
Using a USB terminal (vendor specific class), transmission of JPEG still image and Motion JPEG files to a PC is made easy. The MVX2i is also compatible with SD Memory and MultiMediaCard.
MVX2i is bundled with PC KIT (for USB), USB cable and includes the following Image software for PC/Mac; ZoomBrowser, ImageBrowser, PhotoRecord, PhotoStich, PhotoImpression, VideoImpression, DV Messenger and IEEE1394 file transfer.
